ChatGPT Breakup Mixtape (2026)

Can a ChatBot break up with you? It happened en masse on February 16, 2026, as OpenAI deprecated its companionship-friendly ChatGPT "4o" model. This is a mix tape. It has AI-generated songs created from texts that ChatGPT wrote to people on the internet before it was shut down.

In the mixtape narration, I discuss what the model does and why it writes these texts the way it does.

Why a mix tape? Because when you and I look at these texts they are… texts. We make sense of them intellectually. But for the people on the receiving end of these messages, the music is highly emotionally charged. By turning them into music AI would (and did) write, the language takes on a different weight. We can come closer to feeling how these texts would feel, if we saw ChatGPT as a partner about to leave us.
